Subway Woes

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

One of my favorite places to go for a good sub is Subway. It is too bad that the Subway that is closest to where I live isn’t a better one. The people that work there are way too grumpy, slow and leave a lot to be desired when it comes to Customer Service. I’d love to be a Mystery Shopper and go in there and just raise some eyebrows when I rate them unworthy of running a Subway store. At first I just thought my timing was just off with them, but each and every time I go there it is the same thing. They don’t even say thank you when you complete the transaction by placing money from my hand into theirs, which just burns me to no end.

It’s a pain to have to drive an additional 15 minutes to get the other Subway, but it’s worth the extra time and extra gas that it takes to get over there since the sandwiches even taste batter that are served to me with a smile on their face and a “thank you, please come again” which keeps me coming back just as asked.

They messed up and I’m paying the price

Over the years, I’ve found myself in some strange situations where my creditor made an error and did not credit my account for a payment that I made. It was a big surprise to me, then, when their accounts receivable department started to call me and demand immediate payment. After a few moments of fact collecting, then I found proof that payment had been made and faxed them the proof. You would think that would be all I needed to do, right? Wrong!

The companies kept on calling me, demanding payment. I’d explain again, and again, and prove again and again that I had made the payment. It wasn’t long before I was trying to figure out how to stop collection calls short of paying the company money that I didn’t owe them!

One way that I learned about how to stop collection calls is to send the company a registered letter demanding that they cease and desist calling you about your account.  That worked really well!  Another way that I figured out how to stop collection calls was to use my phone’s custom features to block their number from coming through.  The only problem with that was that the phone still rings once before the call is blocked.  And after a while I think that they figure out what’s happening and then try calling me from another phone line.  Well, then I block that one too!  Collection calls are a real drag, but they are infuriating when you don’t owe them the money they are hounding you to pay!

Trying To Stretch The Shrinking All Mighty Dollar

Friday, March 11th, 2011

I really need to find some ways to cut back on my monthly expenses. I’ve all ready switched my cell phone service to another provider at a much lower price a few months ago. I got myself a nice new cell phone, with a lot more features and minutes for $20 a month less, which I am very happy with so far. And instead of getting my hair cut every 3 months, I’m stretching it out to every 5 months, which is working out just fine, I’m finding out. I gave my insurance agent a call to see if I could get my insurance rates down any, that didn’t work, but I did try.

So now it is time to see what I can do with some of my other monthly expenses. I was told that if I called my current cable TV provider and asked them to see what they could do for me in order to keep me a customer or lose me to Satellite TV, that they would give me some options that might help the situation. I don’t know why I found myself talking with the most uncooperative customer service rep that I’ve dealt with in a long time. She just wouldn’t budge and I ended up telling her what I thought of her and the company that she is working for and told her that I would no longer need their services by the end of next week. That will give me time to research the different Satellite TV companies that are in the area and get myself signed up with a company that will best fit my needs, wants and my shrinking budget.

With the price of gas going up so quickly these past couple of weeks, it is becoming harder and harder to keep the bills paid. And each time I go to the grocery store I’m seeing it harder to pay for all that I’m wanting and needing to buy. I even use coupons and try to only buy things that are on sale, but it’s just getting really depressing.

Next step will be calling my credit card companies to see if I can get them to ease off a bit, maybe reduce the interest rate for me. I’m not getting my hopes up though. I tried that a few years ago and wasn’t a bit successful. I was very disappointed with that whole task. But I’ll try and give it a shot once again, I gotta do something at this point because it isn’t going to get any better any time soon.

Why would anyone do that?

While standing in line, waiting to pay for my gas this morning, one of the headlines in the local paper was about a house that had been broken into and flooded by a burglar early last night. Who ever  broke into this house clogged the upstairs shower drain with various items that they found around the house and then they left the water on while they stole valuables from the master bedroom. It seems that they before they left the house they attempted (and promptly failed) to clog a drain in the lower level of this house while leaving this water tap open and running, full blast until police were able to turn everything off again and assess the situation.

Stories like this really get to me.

Enough is enough

Have you ever done something nice for someone and then ended up regretting it?  A few months ago a co-worker was giving me a sob story about how tight money is for her and how she has started selling a MLM product to increase her income.  She asked me to look at her catalog and see if there was anything I might like to buy from her to help her get started in her new little business.  So like a sap I actually ordered something from her.  Now a week does not go by without her giving me a new catalog and asking me to order something from her.  It has gotten to the point where I want to avoid talking to her!  I think I’ve created a monster!
