Pharmacy Tech Classes

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

My Pharmacy Tech Classes are going quite well so far.  I’ve gotten “As” on all of the tests and homework assignments.  I’ve completed the research paper, which isn’t due for another month.  I’ve even been interviewing for work in the local Wal-Mart store for a job as a Pharmacy Technician, and they say that they are very interested in hiring me.  I’m supposed to call them back tomorrow afternoon and see what kind of progress is being made to that end.  I hope I got the job!  We sure could use the money since my hubby lost seven months of pay from being out injured from that car accident he was in last fall.

I’ve been doing some research as to how much money Pharmacy Techs make and to be honest it was not as much as I thought it was when I signed up for the class.  I’m not sure if I would have signed up for the class if I’d realized how little they actually get paid.  It seems to be for a job to require certification and continuing education that companies would pay decent money!  But it seems that in this area where I live getting paid decent money is a pipe dream, which is why most people commute an hour or more to go to work.  And I don’t want to drive that far to go to work, so I have to just swallow my pride and take a lower paying job.

Oh well, I need the money and the job is close to home.  With the price of gas going up as much as it has, and as much as it is going to be going up, I’ll be the lucky one bringing home more money at the end of the week once the costs of commuting are figured into the picture!

The Internet is a whole new business

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Things sure have changed a lot in my lifetime!  When I was a kid, there were very few opportunities to get the word out about your business.  You could advertise on radio, television, mass mailings, and the paper publishing media such as newspapers and magazines.  And of course, the most effective marketing possible back then was word of mouth marketing; your satisfied customers telling other people that they know that your business exists and exactly how happy they were with your product or service.

Well, word of mouth advertising was the most successful advertising strategy then, and it is the most successful advertising strategy now.  In today’s advertising campaigns, blog marketing adds another dimension to word of mouth advertising.

Blogs were originally set up by people to share their thoughts with their friends and loved ones, and anyone else that might happen to share their interests.  Bloggers have developed a social network that is so far reaching that it almost boggles the imagination.  Marketing companies like Izea capitalize on that social network by finding bloggers that will promote their client’s products.  They have several innovative programs designed to help advertisers promote their products through blog marketing strategies.  Izea offers a lot of different strategies, including product sampling, blog sponsorships, and blog posts.

A job possibility with Employment Select

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

There is a company called Employment Select that I’ve been told is hiring people to do employment screening verification.  From what I understand, it is a company that does employment application resume verification and pre-screening services for potential employers.  This helps the employers find qualified employees to hire.  This is a valuable service to large employers, helping to sort through the many employment applications that they receive.  Employment Select works with sourcing companies,  employment agencies, job boards, employers, and dozens of Fortune 500 companies.

Since I’m looking for a new job, I think I’ll check out the job opportunities there!  I think I could do a good job as an interviewer, and I understand that they offer flexible hours and that I could work at home.  That sounds like an ideal job for me!

Schoolpop

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Being a school bus driver, I am in contact with an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school every day.  For the most part, everyone seems to be quite nice that I have to deal with, although there have been times when I was substitute driving to one school where the vice principal seemed to always be in a bad mood!

Anyway, being in constant contact with the elementary school (at least four times a day!) they have been trying to get me to get involved in their fund raising efforts with the school pop program.  The program is a good program, the participants enroll their credit cards in the program and a portion of their purchase goes to the sponsored school.  It is easy to enroll in, and painless to participate in.  I’d much rather do that than buy junk that I don’t need just to help the school raise money!  You don’t have to dedicate the money to a public school, you can also use Schoolpop to raise money for private schools if that is where you prefer to have your money go!

The things a parent learns when their kids go off to college

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Well, with my kids going to college, there is no telling what I’ll learn the next time I talk to them!

My youngest son is on a campaign to save the world, buying only organic foods, and doing business only with companies that he thinks are “worthy” of his money.  That means that he researches every company before he buys their product.  And he has become interested in holistic medicine, as part of his ever-expanding college experiences.

He loves tea.  He drinks a lot of it.  He has asked me to buy some tea from a company in India that he thinks is “worthy” of our money.  It is a company called Organic India.  He says that Organic India has made a commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture in India.  He says that they pay premium market rate to farmers, which provides the Indian farmers with a living wage.  And he says that all of their teas are certified organic.

He knows that I am interested in holistic/alternative sciences and suggested that I check out their website about Ayurvedic medicine, which is a holistic approach to medicine.  So, I’ll be checking them out!
