Baseball Fever

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

As much as my Dad loves baseball, it just occurred to me that getting him some tickets to next season’s games would be a great Christmas gift and a good birthday gift, too. His birthday is next month. I know this season will be over by then, but there is always next year!

He’s been to a lot of different baseball stadiums over the years, and sometimes I think the stadium is more important than the teams playing.

I know Dad and I went many times to the old stadium that hosted the Baltimore Orioles. That stadium is gone and they now have the beautiful Camden Yards stadium. Neither of us have been to the new one yet, so tickets for 4 of us to Baltimore will be a gift to more than just my Dad – Mom, hubby and I also benefit from that trip.

The new Yankee Stadium is another new baseball field that none of us have experienced. I want to look into a weekend getaway to New York and base it around a Yankees home game.

Maybe my Dad will remember, but maybe he forgot. The very first baseball game that I went to was a Chicago Cubs game. He had taken the whole family to Chicago on a business trip. While he was at the convention, the rest of us did some fun sightseeing around Chicago. Then, on that Sunday, his boss had gotten tickets for his whole family and our whole family to go to Wrigley Field to watch a Cubs game. That was so much fun! And it is one of the few remaining older stadiums that are all about classic baseball. I would love to go back with my Dad for another game next summer!

No Hitter

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Roy Halladay, the former Arvada West pitcher, is throwing a no hitter for the Phillies so far . . . I normally wouldn’t know this – but my Dad called me 3 times on my cell phone at work.

Dad rarely calls me at work, and the first call I was alarmed to see his number on the caller ID. However, by the 3rd update call I was grinning! Ahhh . . . October, and men and their baseball!

Ladies Only at Myrtle Beach

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I would have to be crazy to turn down an offer like the one that I received today from my favorite first cousin (Gale) in the email that she sent me today. She has booked a trip to Myrtle Beach and has asked me if want to come along and enjoy the beach along with a few rounds of golf. It will be a ladies only escape before the holiday season hits us and all of our stress levels will top out before you know it. My kid sister was invited as well as a few more female cousins that all get along really well. We should know in a few days, who is in and who isn’t and then we can start making some finale arrangements.

Gale has bookmarked http://www.myrtlebeachgolf.net, which is a site that allows you the opportunity to find good Myrtle Beach golf packages at some of the best Myrtle Beach golf courses along with your lodging accommodations all in one full swoop. A co worker of hers used this site and was very happy with the results that she got with it and was spreading the word at work in which Gale picked up the idea of going to Myrtle Beach in the first place. I’ll let you know how it plays out when I hear the word!

Golfing at Myrtle Beach With My Kid Sister!

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

One of my sisters (the youngest one) just recently moved to South Carolina, not too far from the well known Myrtle Beach area, and she is loving it. She has been letting it be known that she would love for family to come and visit her and has been sending several emails with links to various Myrtle Beach Resorts that she thinks would be of interest and affordable to stay at.

It is most unfortunate that her new place isn’t very big so she doesn’t have any additional room for anyone to stay there overnight but that’s O.K. with me because I have sleep issues and prefer to stay somewhere that I would be able to be comfortable and get a good night’s sleep at. The last link that she sent me was www.myrtlebeachseasideresorts.com and I have to say that their options sound wonderful.

At http://www.myrtlebeachseasideresorts.com/ they show six different resorts to choose from. All of them offer easy online registration, with a variety of specials and packages to suite just about every one’s needs and wants.

Since we come from a family of avid golfers, and Myrtle Beach is known for their golf courses, I would like to find one that offers good golf packages Myrtle Beach style and I think that I have come up with one that will do us justice. Now we just have to figure out the dates that will be best for everyone involved and I’ll dip into my vacation savings account and head down south for some fun in the sun with my kid sister. Something to look forward to, to be sure.

The Harvesting of Dolphins

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

I’ve been watching the new show on The Animal Planet “Blood Dolphins” aired on Friday nights and it really has me upset. I had no idea that there was such atrocities going on with dolphins all over the world. I’m so glad the The Animal Planet has brought this nightmare to our attention and I can only hope that it makes a difference for dolphins everywhere.
