Disater Hits Japan, Big Time

Friday, March 11th, 2011

It has been some time since I have watched the evening news. It has just become too depressing to watch right before trying to lay my head down and sleep for the night. I can get all the news, weather and sports online when I’m on the computer for such a good part of the day and night.

First thing this morning when I logged onto my laptop, to check my emails before heading onto work, I see that a horrendous earthquake, measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale, which is a logarithmic scale used to express the total amount of energy released by an earthquake, has hit Japan. That is the highest on the Richter scale that I have ever heard of hitting anywhere that I can remember. 8.9 is just beyond crazy and completely devastating. The pictures that we are seeing and the stories are heart breaking. I just don’t know what else to say other than a prayer for everyone involved in this most recent disaster.

Why would anyone do that?

While standing in line, waiting to pay for my gas this morning, one of the headlines in the local paper was about a house that had been broken into and flooded by a burglar early last night. Who ever  broke into this house clogged the upstairs shower drain with various items that they found around the house and then they left the water on while they stole valuables from the master bedroom. It seems that they before they left the house they attempted (and promptly failed) to clog a drain in the lower level of this house while leaving this water tap open and running, full blast until police were able to turn everything off again and assess the situation.

Stories like this really get to me.

Credit Cards, A Huge Variety Out There These Days

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

I think we all know how important credit cards are to us these days. And we are learning the hard way on how important it is to do your homework and make smart decisions when it comes to this handy little pieces of plastic that we can’t seem to live without in today’s financial and very technical world. I wouldn’t even think about signing on the dotted line on any credit card application without going online and taking advantage of what the Internet offers us in so many ways. There are credit card reviews and ratings sites that take a lot of the leg work out of the task of comparing and finding the perfect credit card that will suite your personal needs and wants.

Financeglobe.com is a great site to check out to find out all kinds of financial information and I would urge anyone to check it out and use it for what it is worth before choosing a credit card. There are more than just the popular chase credit cards and the citi credit cards that most of us are familiar with. Along with so many promotions with points, rewards and cash back offers up the ying yang, so it’s nice to have this type of information all in one place to get the job done right.

Anheuser-Busch’s Marketing Strategies

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Since I have several close friends that are furthering their Education using the Walden University online degree programs I have taken to reading The Chronicle of Higher Education online from time to time. It always has some quality articles that I have found interesting and entertaining as well.

I have been following the story of how as of last year, Anheuser-Busch has started  marketing a line of team-color Bud Light cans that are to appeal to sports fans in select markets. It seems that when the beer’s in your team’s colors that drinking seems safer and that has people up in arms about how that might encourage binge drinking and consumption by minors.

I can see how people (mainly school administrators) would be concerned about this marketing strategy. We have always had a problem with students drinking. Not just college kids, but high schoolers, middle schoolers and even some of the grade school kids are drinking and we all know how bad that can be for all concerned. You would think that companies that are making and selling alcohol would be a bit more cautious with their marketing strategies, I mean I’m sure that they have kids as well and that they should be more concerned with their safety rather than the all mighty dollar that they are always chasing after with little or no concern for what their products can do to people, especially our children.

I could crochet them myself

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

I saw a headline about a pair of $500 socks and I was intrigued. So I clicked around and found a video that explains it. They look like they are crocheted (I could do that) and they cannot be washed or dry cleaned. The socks have a large fish-net type open-ness to them. I wonder how many pairs of these socks will be sold! What do YOU think of these socks?
