Heart health

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I see a lot of news stories lately about people dying from sudden cardiac arrest. More news coverage is happening about taking care of our hearts, and lots of advice has been given out about making sure to eat properly and get proper exercise. There has been a lot of discussion about risk factors and mortality rates. St. Jude Medical has put out a sudden cardiac death video that I just watched and found to be very educational. It is well worth watching.

Now THAT’S a bad day!

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I was reading on msnbc.nbc.com this morning that last week, the first day on the job for police officer Tim Pochron in Hobart Indiana did not start well.  Twenty nine minutes into his first day, his new squad car was parked outside his house (I don’t know why it was outside his house when he was on the job, that is interesting….) and an intoxicated driver smashed into the squad car, and then a tree.  The rear axle of the squad car was bent from the impact.

Not a good way to start a job, is it?

Why are they doing this to us?

I was reading a Reuters.com article today that the Senate blocked debate on a bill that would have extended tax credits to consumers who buy hybrid cars and install energy producing windmills and solar arrays.  It sounds to me as if the Senate has some kind of ulterior motive to keep us chained and enslaved to foreign oil.  What’s up with that?

Pet dog killed by street sweeper

Monday, June 16th, 2008

I was browsing around the Internet today and found a story that broke my heart.  It was a story from last week, on Thursday June 12, 2008, about how a man was putting his little dog into his car and a street sweeping machine came up behind them and swept the dog up inside the machine and killed the poor little thing!  The “authority” in charge of street sweepers said that they “offer condolences” but made no offer to buy a replacement dog.  I think that the LEAST they can do is buy a replacement dog, for crying out loud!  If you want to see the story, click here.

What a weekend!

Monday, June 16th, 2008

My goodness gracious, what a weekend of news it has been!  Every time I turn on the news, something is actually being covered other than the presidential election!

Big news of the weekend included Tim Russert dying of cardiac arrest.  All weekend long, and into today that seems to be the biggest news story, everyone is talking about Tim Russert and what a great guy he was.  I enjoyed watching his Meet The Press show, and I’m sorry he’s dead.  My sympathies to his family.

Other news, a big prison break in Afghanistan, releasing hundreds of Taliban terrorist prisoners.  Not a happy thought that we now have more of them running around ready to commit suicide bombings around the world!

And a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Japan.  I’ve only heard of six fatalities, which is amazing to me.  I would have thought more casualties would have happened from a quake that large!

Glad this weekend is over!  We don’t need that much going on!
