My Own Company!

Guest post written by my buddy Aldo Mays

Being a writer has always been a dream of mine and here I am in my mid-20s finally realizing it! I love the way I get to make my own schedule and work for who I want and I also love how creative this business allows me to be on a daily basis. When I first started, a lot of my clients wanted to use a credit card to pay me but I wasn’t sure how to do so. I went to http://bank-card-processing.com and tried to find a solution. Once that was taken care of I was more or less up and running and once I got my website completed, I was a total professional! Life is good as an entrepreneur and I’m even getting so busy that I may have to start contracting out some of my work ! When I quit my real job a few years back I never would have guessed things would turn out so well for me in this endeavor but I guess it shows that taking a risk is usually worth it!

Sad news

Monday, July 18th, 2011

I just read that the chain of bookstores, Borders, is going out of business! That is so very sad – we have a really nice Borders store in town that I enjoy going into. I read that all of the employees are going to be out of jobs! That is news that this economy simply does not need right now! So very sad…..

Subway Woes

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

One of my favorite places to go for a good sub is Subway. It is too bad that the Subway that is closest to where I live isn’t a better one. The people that work there are way too grumpy, slow and leave a lot to be desired when it comes to Customer Service. I’d love to be a Mystery Shopper and go in there and just raise some eyebrows when I rate them unworthy of running a Subway store. At first I just thought my timing was just off with them, but each and every time I go there it is the same thing. They don’t even say thank you when you complete the transaction by placing money from my hand into theirs, which just burns me to no end.

It’s a pain to have to drive an additional 15 minutes to get the other Subway, but it’s worth the extra time and extra gas that it takes to get over there since the sandwiches even taste batter that are served to me with a smile on their face and a “thank you, please come again” which keeps me coming back just as asked.

They messed up and I’m paying the price

Over the years, I’ve found myself in some strange situations where my creditor made an error and did not credit my account for a payment that I made. It was a big surprise to me, then, when their accounts receivable department started to call me and demand immediate payment. After a few moments of fact collecting, then I found proof that payment had been made and faxed them the proof. You would think that would be all I needed to do, right? Wrong!

The companies kept on calling me, demanding payment. I’d explain again, and again, and prove again and again that I had made the payment. It wasn’t long before I was trying to figure out how to stop collection calls short of paying the company money that I didn’t owe them!

One way that I learned about how to stop collection calls is to send the company a registered letter demanding that they cease and desist calling you about your account.  That worked really well!  Another way that I figured out how to stop collection calls was to use my phone’s custom features to block their number from coming through.  The only problem with that was that the phone still rings once before the call is blocked.  And after a while I think that they figure out what’s happening and then try calling me from another phone line.  Well, then I block that one too!  Collection calls are a real drag, but they are infuriating when you don’t owe them the money they are hounding you to pay!

Midnight Deadline

Monday, April 18th, 2011

When I was a single mom and it was “us against the world,” tax day was an event. Kinda like the hurricane parties they throw in the Carolinas. We celebrated the awful de with a special dinner and then we would all pile into the car and drive to the main post office, as close to midnight as we dared to mail my tax return. Now the post office does not even stay open until midnight any more – not even on Tax Day. They closed at 10:00 pm. *sigh*

Guess we’ll have to come up with a new tradition. I know most people use E-file now and don’t even mail the returns. Where is the fun in that? Everyone standing around the computer cheering when you press the send button just doesn’t get it for me.
