No Melt Ice Cream

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Cold Stone Creamery has been busy putting little gourmet ice cream shops in malls and shopping centers all over the country. I’ve tried it a couple of times. As much as I love ice cream, I can’t justified spending $5-$6 per person for a cone of ice cream.

But this morning I read that Cold Stone has invented an ice cream that does not melt. It looks like a pudding or mousse and, according to the report, still tastes like ice cream. That might be worth a try!

Corn on the Cob

Friday, June 26th, 2009

One of the best things about fresh summer vegetables is the abundance of corn on the cob. I’ve tried to grow my own sweet corn, but have never had much success. So I do appreciate what the farmers go through to get these huge beautiful ears of corn to the market for us to enjoy with our dinners. I don’t mind paying up to a dollar an ear for good, fresh sweet corn!

Happy Turkey Day!

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

My favorite meal of the year: Thanksgiving Dinner!

We’ll have all the goodies that go with turkey: whipped potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, buttermilk biscuits, jellied cranberries, and pies.

What did you have and who did the cooking?

Big family dinner

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Whew – we had a big family dinner here this afternoon/evening.  People started arriving around 2:30, left about 7:45.  Everyone brought some food item to share, and it was all really good stuff.  I was the hostess, so I didn’t get as much time to visit as everyone else, and I spent a lot of time “fetching” things, but that is OK.  At least that way I don’t stick my foot in my mouth and get into trouble!

My kids helped me clean up after everyone left, and now I have a moment to sit at the computer before I collapse into bed.  I’m going to sleep well tonight!

Had pork chops for supper tonight

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

Last weekend my hubby went grocery shopping with me and asked me to buy some pork chops.  He promised he’d cook them on the grill.  I haven’t had much good luck myself cooking porch chops, so I agreed.  I figured that way if they came out lousy it wouldn’t be my fault!  Well, he cooked them on the grill tonight, and he also fixed some rice and green beans.  It was delicious!  He’s a good cook.  I’m starting to think maybe I’ll hang up my apron for good!
