Baby Gear

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

My sister-in-law is having a baby shower for her daughter, so I need to find a baby shower gift. I am willing to spend about $100, which is a little high for a baby shower gift, but she is family and she needs a nice stroller. There are so many different types on the market, with convertibles, full features and then the simple lightweight strollers. Its been so long since I had to worry about baby strollers, that I need to read up on what’s new and what the latest features are so that I can her the best that I can afford.

They have only lived in the area for about a year, so neither of them know many people here. I’m sorry that we don’t expect many guests – it is hard to find a list of women to invite. So I want to make sure that she gets some very nice gifts from those of us who do attend. At first I was thinking about an upscale baby carrier, which is required by law in most states now. But I think someone else is more likely to buy that for her and I think a nice stroller will be both needed and appreciated.

Good-bye September

The end of September is a depressing time for me. I like summer and am sorry to see it end. Although many people consider Labor Day to be the end of summer, I have found that the weather actually stays very warm through the end of the month, and it is not until early October that the nights get cooler and the leaves begin to turn their bright colors.

The days get shorter and in October we switch back to regular Standard Time. October is a month of many changes, colder weather, shorter days and less sunshine. But the bright colors and scenic views help make up for that.

I’ve Discovered Scrubs

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Some of my friends have started wearing nurse uniforms on the weekends when they are cleaning house or even running errands. I usually wear jeans, but I became curious as to what was the attraction of the scrubs? I have to admit that I’ve never even had on a pair, never bought any and never considered them to be a good alternative to wearing jeans.

Well, I decided to give nursing scrubs a closer look. They come in several different colors and all of them have a wide cut through the rump, thighs and knees. They all have a drawstring waistline. All of them are plenty long to fit me at my inseam. They appear to be easy to launder and don’t need ironing. And they are inexpensive. What’s not to like?

I asked my girlfriend Alexa where to buy cheap scrubs and she told me about a web site that she uses. So not only do I have a new source of casual wear, but I can order the scrubs online and not even have to drive to the store to buy them!

The Defenders

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Tonight is a big night on TV for good shows. It starts at 8:00 with the reality show, Survivor, which moved to Wednesday nights this year. Then the intense crime drama called, “Criminal Minds,” comes on at 9:00. And finally, at 10:00 is a new show called, “The Defenders.”

I really like The Defenders, a show based on a couple of real lawyers in Las Vegas. The lawyers do things on the fly and with great passion. It’s a mix of in court proceedings and a lot of background interviews and personal interactions with family and people scattered about Sin City. I like it so far and am looking forward to the show tonight.

Tahiti Bound

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010

Thanks for the article from Laura Ryan

Last winter while sitting and watching my free dvr, I heard the rattle of the wind as it shook the panes, icicles hung from the eaves like frozen stalactites and snow had piled up against the shed totally blocking door. Even the kids were playing in their rooms and not even these hardy little souls could be convinced to engage in a snow fight or construct a snowman. It was cold, really, really cold.

Suddenly warmth appeared from the satellite TV station in the form of swaying palms, white sand beaches and crystal, clear, turquoise water. Tahiti, I always wanted to go to Tahiti. It did not take much to convince the wife after she walked through the door; her nose was red and running, snowflakes adorned her hair looking like a mantle piece at Christmas and the car would not start at the store. It was just too darned cold.

Reservations were made, quickly; the kids, overwhelmed at the chance to miss two weeks of school, packed their shorts, sandals and bathing suits much faster than you can get them to do the dishes and my wife gave me hug and a kiss with chilly lips. Songs of dashing through the snow no more accompanied the trip to the airport and the next day found us on a beach, beneath a palm tree drinking Mai Tais
