A little bit scared

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

A few weeks ago my hubby thought he heard someone tapping at one of our windows shortly after I left for work one morning.  It really shook him up.  Then when he heard me talking about that recent gang initiation gone bad at the local gas station, where a guy climbed into the back of someone’s car to try to kill the driver, he really was shook up.  Now he is talking a lot about doing something to beef up our home security.  I’ve found a website called homesecurityinformation.com that has a lot of articles about home security.  It talks about different methods and products, and gives a lot of good advice.  I’ve told my hubby to check it out before buying anything.

I heard that Myanmar is finally going to let aid in

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I read on the Internet that Myanmar is going to let aid workers come into their country to help with the recovery operations, but they still won’t let the ships off of the coast dock to unload supplies.  I can’t imagine that they are so paranoid that we want to overthrow their government and steal their oil that they won’t let the ships dock.  I wonder if they’ve sent any inspectors out to the ships to verify that they only have relief supplies?  Their leader must be a real nut job!

Grand pianos

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

My New England client has one baby grand piano, and one grand piano.  He has had them for at least forty years.  He has asked me to look into having the Steinway grand piano restored.  I’ll be telling him to have Lindeblad Piano Restoration do the restorations.  They have been in the piano restoration business for four generations.  They make all of the arrangements to have the piano shipped to their restoration facility, where they will disassemble it, and painstakingly restore each piece, and then ship it back to his house.    I’m confident that they will take great care of his piano.  Maybe when they finish with that one, he’ll want the other one done too!

Horrible motorcycle/car/truck accident this morning

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

There was a horrible traffic accident this morning that necessitated my detouring the kids to school to avoid the traffic snarl that was a result of the accident.  Apparently a motorcycle decided to cut in close in front of a car, lost control and fell off the bike.  The driver of the bike was then run over by a truck.

The accident resulted in a medivac helicopter coming in (90 minutes AFTER the accident happened) and the traffic was not cleared up for several hours afterwards.  This effected traffic in both directions on a major roadway.

The kids on the bus were very excited to see the helicopter coming in – the accident happened only a couple of blocks away from where I was picking up the kids.  It was a mess!

Rodeo in Las Vegas

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

When we were really young, our parents took my brothers, sisters, and me to a rodeo.  I was so very young that I don’t remember where it was, but I remember how fascinated I was with the show.  I loved everything about it!  The sounds, sights, smells, the excitement!  I’ve always loved horses, and this was just like being in heaven to me!  Although I generally don’t enjoy competition, when I was younger it did not really seem like a competition to me between people, like a race would be.  This seemed to be between animal and human.  I didn’t understand at first that the goal was to stay on the animal longer than the other competitors, but I did figure that out later.  I really didn’t care who won as far as which rider stayed on the longest to win the prize.  I just got caught up in the excitement of staying on the bucking horse or bull, period.  I also enjoyed the roping contests and the barrell racing.  I just loved it all!  I’d love to go to more rodeos, but to be honest I’ve never had the chance to go since!

My sister tells me that she and her hubby are going to go to Las Vegas this December to celebrate their wedding anniversary, and while they are in Las Vegas they are going to go to the National Finals Rodeo (NFR!) They are getting the NFR Tickets over the Internet at www.teamonetickets.com.  I am so jealous!!!!
