Over the past week or so, there have been a few times when the school bus has driven through a “stinky” pocket of air. Last week it was a pocket of the odor of fertilizer, today it was a dead skunk in the road. It has been so funny to observe the reactions of the school kids when the odor hits their noses! I have a hard time to refrain from laughing out loud. It is even funnier when I explain to the kids WHAT it is they are smelling!

Stinky smells and the kids on the bus
Thursday, May 29th, 2008Between the bus runs
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008There is some layover time between school bus runs, and the bus drivers sometimes congregate and chat for a few minutes during the layover. Such was the case today, and as I joined the group one of the ladies was talking about decorating her new house. She was complaining about how hot her house was getting during the day, and it isn’t even the heat of summer yet! I suggested that she put some new blinds in her windows to block out the sunlight, which would help to keep her house cooler. I suggested that she check out the Nobrainerblinds website for her blinds because that website offers free samples and free shipping, and gives really good directions on how to measure the windows so that the blinds will fit. They have a great selection of blinds, so I’m sure she will find what she needs and likes there!
Stinky farmland
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008This afternoon I was driving the school kids home on the bus. The day was very warm, so the windows were down. I really could not see the farmland we were driving past, but I could certainly smell the odor of chicken manure fertilizer on the breeze! The kids were all complaining “what’s that smell?” When I told them what it was, they were totally grossed out! I was kind of surprised they didn’t know what the smell was, haven’t they lived here all their young lives?????? I’m the newcomer here, I should have been the one asking “what’s that smell?!”
Shopping for Christmas on the Internet
Saturday, May 24th, 2008I generally like to make as many Christmas presents as I can for the people on my gift list, but there are some people that simply don’t appreciate hand made items. So I don’t want to waste my time making really nice things for them if they would rather have something “store bought.” I like to buy as many things as I can throughout the year, spreading the expense and work out so that I’m not over stressed and overwhelmed during the holiday season, trying to get everything bought, wrapped, shipped, and meals and gatherings planned. However, there are some people on my list that I simply cannot buy gifts for them far in advance because they usually buy the things themselves if it isn’t close to Christmas, so by the time Christmas comes around, they already have it!
That is why I like the www.black-friday.net website. That site has compiled a large list of Black Friday specials of merchants, such as Macy’s, JC Penny, Kohl’s, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, and Toys R Us and Old Navy. They allow you to register for their emails that will send you updates of Black Friday Specials and allow you to order the products online, so you don’t ever have to actually go to the store and stand in line and battle the crowds.
A strange car drove up last night
Saturday, May 24th, 2008It was so weird – a few minutes after writing my post last night about home security, a car we didn’t recognize pulled up our driveway. It made my hubby and I both a little bit nervous. We weren’t expecting any kind of company, and it was after 8pm. We’re usually in bed starting to fall asleep by then! Turns out it was one of our neighbors, who was hoping to borrow a roll of electical tape. He didn’t want to have to drive all the way into town to buy a roll, and he needed it right away. He said he’d bring it back in five minutes! Well, we ended up staying up until 9:30, and the electrical tape still isn’t here, so I guess his concept of how long “five minutes” is is a little bit longer than our concept of how long “five minutes” is!
