Went shopping today

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

My hubby & son needed new shoes, so we went shopping this afternoon.  There aren’t any good shoe stores locally, had to drive to “the big city” over an hour away.  We found shoes for both of them and I tried to pay for them with my debit card.  I KNOW I have over $250 on that card, but the store’s machine rejected the card for a purchase that was under $100.  I was not pleased, but paid for it with my Discover Card.

Then we went to Circuit City, where my hubby bought something, and again I tried my debit card.  Again it was rejected.  I don’t understand why that happened!  I told the cashier’s both times it was a debit card, but they never asked for my pin, they only told me that it was immediately rejected.  Maybe they entered it as a credit card (even though I told them it was a debit) and maybe that’s the problem.  I’ve never had a problem with it at Wal-Mart, they take it every time!

Buying a gift for a Chicago Cubs fan

Friday, April 25th, 2008

My brother-in-law’s birthday is coming up soon, and we are thinking about buying him some genuine Cubs apparel for his gift.  He is a big Cubs fan, and I think that he would really appreciate receiving something from www.cubworld.com from us.  I’ve been looking through their website, and I was quite surprised at the huge variety of things that they sell that are Cubs related.  They sell men’s clothes, women’s clothes, even baby clothes!  They also sell souvenir things like key-chains and mugs.  I think I found the perfect gift – a Cubs silk tie!  He can wear that when he has to wear a jacket and tie, and it will make having to dress up more “bearable.”  (Pun intended.)

Helped another bus driver find her way home

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I’ve made a few friends with the other school bus drivers, one of which is as new to the area as I am.  Sometimes she does substitute bus runs in the afternoons, and today was one of those days.  My afternoon bus run goes way out into the far-flung reaches of the county, and it is a very long drive.  Today when I had dropped off my last student, I saw her bus drive past me.  We waved to each other as she went by.  Then I pulled out behind her to start my long trip back to the bus yard.  A few minutes later I heard her on the 2-way radio asking me to help her find her way back to the bus yard.  So, for the next 40 minutes I was right behind her, giving her directions.  The last time she had driven a run down in that area of the county she had gotten lost, so she was very glad to see me today!  And I was glad to help!

My mother is redecorating her guest room

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

My mother has decided to redecorate her guest room.  The curtains and bedspread are starting to look outdated and just plain worn.  She has asked me to help her pick out some new window valances for the room.  I’ve suggested that she check out the website www.thecurtainshop.com to see if she can find any that she likes.  I think that their selection of valances and toppers is awesome!  Since she is redecorating the whole room she might want to check out their selection of bedding ensembles too!

The Curtain Shop has a price matching guarantee – if you find the same item for less money they will gladly match it.  They also honor competitor’s coupons!  So I think that she can shop here with confidence that she is getting a good price.

Drove right past some kids today

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I had to do a bus run this morning that I was not familiar with.  I drove right past some of the kids I was supposed to pick up!  They were not close to the road, so I didn’t see them.  If the kids on the bus hadn’t told me that I missed them, I never would have known!  It was very aggravating trying to find a spot to turn around to pick up the ones that I missed.  I wish they would stand close enough to the road for me to see them!
