Violin lessons

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I’ve often thought that I’d like to learn how to play violin as beautifully as my uncle could.  But my parents made me take piano lessons instead.  Well, I have no room in my house for a piano, but I would have had room for a violin!  There is a website www.videoviolinlessons.com that sells a DVD set of violin lessons that were recorded by the Academy of Music Performance with a professional violin instructor Mrs Bridgette Seidel.  It sells several sets of DVDs.  The first set is the equivalent of one year of private violin lessons.  This sounds like a great way to learn to play violin in the privacy of your own home without having to spend a huge amount of money!

Neighbor’s brother going under

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

This past weekend I had a short visit with my next door neighbor.  My Internet service was down most of Saturday and I really needed to check my email.  I called my neighbor and asked if her Internet service was working and she said yes, come on over.  So I went over to check my email.  While I was there I overheard her on the phone with her brother in New York.  He is going through rough times and has hired a New York bankruptcy lawyer, Richard S. Feinsilver, ESQ to help him sort through all of the intricacies of filing for bankruptcy.  I was sorry to hear that he was having such a hard time.  No one deserves to be in that situation!  But today’s economy has put many of us in that awful spot.

No lost and found

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I was disappointed recently at work to discover that there is no lost and found department.  I have had kids leave things on my school bus that they did not mark with their name or address and I have no way of knowing who it belongs to.  Since I am a substitute driver I am usually using a “spare bus” and I am only picking up/dropping the kids off one time and the next bus run is usually a different run.  So I usually don’t even get to know the kids names!  So I have tried to help the “lost items” get found again but usually the “lost items” remain lost.  When I have asked about it at “base” they usually tell me to just throw the items away.  Yesterday it was a pair of Nike shoes in a drawstring bag.  I don’t want to throw away a pair of Nike shoes!  Those things are expensive!

The greatest invention since sliced bread!

We love to use room temperature butter in our family.  Ever since I can remember we always had our butter dish on our kitchen counter to keep the butter soft and spreadable.  The only problem with that was that the butter spoils quickly that way!  I just found out about a special low-tech Butter Bell butter dish that allows you to keep butter out on the kitchen counter for up to thirty days without spoiling!  What a great invention!  What a unique gift! I’ve got to have one!

The butter dish is sold at the website www.vat19.com, which specializes in unique gifts.   I am going to bookmark that site and spend a lot of time looking at their products!

Holocaust Museum

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

My oldest son has decided that he wants to go to see the Holocaust Museum in DC.  I can’t find anyone willing to go with him, and he doesn’t want to go alone.  I don’t want to go see a museum of horror, so I don’t know what to do!  It’s a dilemma.
