Askismet comes standard on Wordrpess, which means you do not have to download a plugin. Activating it requires you to have a WordPress.com account or a friend, then you can use the API key to activate this anti spam plugin – which will save you hours, if not days, of not having to delete spam over the life of your blog. Probably the best plugin made for WordPress, in my opinion.
