Boy are my hands sore! This morning I was given a substitute run that took me from 5:45 am until 9am. Then I had to go to dispatch to learn how to operate the new bus that I’ll be getting next week. So I drove that around for about a half hour. Then I drove home to eat lunch and change clothes from long sleeves and long jeans into a t-shirt and shorts because it got really hot and the buses are NOT air conditioned! I got home at 10:50, changed my clothes really quickly, ate lunch and checked my email briefly, and did a post or two on my blog.
Then I had to leave the house at 11:30 because I was given an extra substitute run at noon to take elementary kids home because they had early dismissal. One of the kids couldn’t get into her house, her parents weren’t home and the house was locked so I had to keep her with me and take her back at the end of the run to see if the parents were home yet, all the while on the radio trying to find her parents. As soon as I got her settled in to her home I had to dash across the county to the high school to do my afternoon run.
I’m usually at the high school by 2:10 to get into the lineup; today I just pulled in at 2:30. Kids were already standing by the spot where my bus usually is waiting for them. So then I took them home and got back to base at 4:45. I had to fuel up the bus before driving home. I feel like I’ve been driving all day! My hands hurt from gripping the steering wheel and my buns hurt from sitting in that hard seat all day! I’m glad the weekend is here!
