This morning there was a car accident at the intersection of the main road and the main driveway of the high school. Of course it happened right before school was supposed to open, and it snarled up rush hour traffice like you wouldn’t believe!
The police closed off the road and redirected traffic down the closest main road, which happened to have the alternate driveway of the high school on it. So the bus drivers were told via our two way radios to use the alternate driveway (which we are not supposed to ever use if we have students on the bus because it is dangerous to try to cross the wide divided highway to get to the school.)
The police created a roadblock with their cars at several intersections around the accident to preven traffic from going down that road, but did nothing to ease the snarl of traffic trying to get the school buses across the now extra-congested divided highway into the high school. I had to wait over twenty minutes before I could get close to the turn-off, waiting for other buses to cross the road before I had my chance. It was a mess!
I think that it was poor judgement on someone’s part to not assign some police traffic control to assist the buses to get to school.
