I have always had a special place in my heart for clocks. I’ve always wanted a grandfather’s clock, near the fireplace hearth. Just because I always adored my grandfathers, and whenever I see a grandfather’s clock, I think of them. Why? Simply because it’s called a grandfather’s clock! I always felt that my grandfathers were the only people in my life to love me unconditionally, and now that they are both dead, I miss them dreadfully. Whenever I see a grandfather’s clock, I get a warm fuzzy feeling about the love that my grandfathers gave to me.
When I was a young adult and had moved out into my very first apartment, I was strapped for cash. A good friend gave me a wonderful Seth Thomas wall clock that looked great on my living room wall. I loved that clock, it coordinated well with my decorating style, and I needed one desperately! I have had that clock for 25 years, and I love it more now than I did when I first got it. I think it reminds me of the feelings of independence I had at the time of moving out on my own.
My hubby has a soft spot in his heart for a special mantel clock that was given to him by his aunt as a remembrance of his recently departed grandmother. It is a basic looking Revere mantel clock that “thunks” when it should “chime” but my hubby loves it because it brings back memories of his childhood, and summer vacations spent at his grandparents.
And clocks can be fun, too! I love to craft things, and am always trying to find ways to “save the environment” with my crafting. I love to do “trash to treasure” crafts. Recently I received a “junk mail cd” and decided to turn it into a clock by doing a little bit of painting on it and putting some clock works in it. I love to show it to my friends when they come over and look at my “crafting stuff.” (See picture below!)
